Project Overview

Arriving at a place one has never visited before can lead to anxiety, stress, and feeling overwhelmed. Hotels can be hard to navigate especially when they are overcrowded, leading to additional stress. There are a variety of different reasons that bring people to a hotel such as work trips, family vacations, pleasure, and sporting events. Hotels often do not include spaces that accommodate all types of travellers' needs, leading to an inability to settle down. If a hotel does not provide a good first impression guests will be unpleased with their stay, leading to discomfort. The goal of this project is to create a space that is tailored to guests' needs. This project will aim to eliminate negative environmental behaviour and improve guests’ overall comfort within the space.

Concept

​

The John Allyn Taylor Building is transitioning into a hotel in the heart of downtown London, Ontario. The Serenity Inn is intended to become a significant destination for comfort. Designed by AB Design, the space will be converted into welcoming private and social lounges, a bar, relaxing spa rooms, a calming yoga studio, and guest suites. This will create a home-away-from-home environment. To Enhance guests' well-being, plants and greenery will be incorporated throughout. Emphasis will be placed on using sustainable materials to help maintain indoor air quality. Materials will also have acoustical properties to improve privacy and allow guests to relax in peace. For personalization and adaptability, each seating area will be multi-purpose. A sense of warmth will be emitted with the use of a neutral colour palette. To eliminate the feeling of confusion, adequate wayfinding strategies will be used. Touch-screen kiosks and imagery will enhance the experience.
